Law of the Farm: Crop Management

Harvest reveals the brutal truth of how well you managed your crop. While there are uncontrollable variables of weather, pests & disease, a farmer must manage his time & money… choices to maximize his harvest value.

In the Law of the Farm this fundamental Core Value is set out in Geneses 2:15, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” God “put” him in God’s farm to work… to manage God’s creation. This has not changed!

The picture illustrates two soybean fields. The one on the left is managed well, while the picture on the right is a soybean field overrun with weeds. These weeds will have a double negative effect. First the weeds rob the soybean plants of its potential by sucking vital food from the ground… stealing food from the plant. Second, at harvest the buyer will reduce the purchase price of the harvest because they will have the added expense of removing the weed seeds from the harvest. The bottom line is that weeds reduce the potential and reduce the price at harvest. BAM!

So, how does this apply to life?

Each day from the time our little eyes pop open until they ease shut, we are planting. We plant with our mouth. The question is what are you planting? What is the source of the seed?

Today the airways are full of weed seeds. There are the seeds of self that harvest pride. There are seeds of division that harvest hate. There are seeds of pleasure that harvest addictions. There are seeds of comparison that harvest resentfulness. There are seeds of busy that harvest anxiety. There are seeds of doubt that harvest fear. There are seeds of “more” that harvest greed. And the source of all these seeds is found in only one place. Jesus called him “the father of lies” (the devil) in John 8:44.

But what if you choose to fill your hooper up every morning with God’s Good Seed:

  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
  • Be still, and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10
  • The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” Proverbs 21:31
  • The weeds are the people of the evil one,  and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.” Matthew 13:38-40
  • For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
  • And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
  • That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity.” John 17:21-23
  • Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:27
  • The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10
  • I (Jesus) give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:28

And this one unmistakable Godly harvest. “… the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 Doesn’t your very being crave Peace? Only Jesus can provide Peace in life… in storms… Only Jesus.

And when you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you (James 4:8). And when you draw near to Him…    Oh, what a Harvest… “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23

So, tomorrow morning what will you choose as your seed source? The world’s weeds or God’s Promises found in His Love Letter (Bible) to you?
