The Headmaster of God School is the Holy Spirit. “The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name (Jesus), will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26
God’s desire is for us to love and draw near to Him. This is why God made so many references to “teach”* in the Bible. Proverbs 7:2 “Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.”
Several years ago, God gave me the concept of “God School” that seemed to put everything in place for me. All three are significant. To show how much the Father loves us, He provides the Holy Spirit to personally teach, encourage & correct us in reading the Bible, our classroom study and our “life-lab sessions”…He never leaves us. (Matthew 28:20)
- The “Textbook” is the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God, the supreme and final authority without error. Unlike books written by man, God does not sugarcoat or cover up wrongs. Also, unlike human books, the Bible uses people with flaws to reveal His love & His saving Grace & Power. The only Hero in the Bible is God. ”All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16,17
- The “Classroom” is where we receive instruction on God’s Word such as a Pastors sermon, Sunday School lessons, Bible study and such. All classroom instruction should be in complete agreement with the Bible.
- The “Lab” is life…where choices are made. When we chose to not follow the formula…the lab experiments usually blow up. This results in embarrassment, injury and pain for ourselves and others and perhaps a devastating failure. But God does not desire for us to live in failure. He is the God of Grace & Mercy…of second chances or do-overs. “Yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins.” Romans 3:24 Listen to God’s heart from Deuteronomy 5:29 “Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!” Blessings Follow Obedience!
In summary the purpose of God School is:
- Our instruction, warnings, and how-to manual is our Textbook, The Bible.
- Our inspiration, motivation, & encouragement is found in our Classrooms.
- We learn through “doing” that informs, corrects, and provide the feedback for all meaningful learning and ultimate change in God’s Lab Sessions.
We need all three to grow and fulfill His purpose for us.
*According to Bible Hub (2.6.2024), there are 936 references to “teach” in the Bible.
God School: Finding The Missing Piece
One “Life Lesson” I learned in God School classroom. It was one morning watching a man put a 1,000-piece puzzle together. He was incredible. He could put a puzzle together in a few hours. On this morning, I watched from a distance as he looked at the picture on the box cover… then looked down…
God School: Who’s Driving?
“When you let Jesus drive, don’t sit in the back seat and give direction. He knows where He is taking you!!” Jason Benbrook On Sunday mornings, as we are walking to the Discovery classroom, (Sunday School at First Assembly NLR) our dear friend Jason has something waiting for us on the whiteboard. They are always…
God School: Did You Hear It?
Today’s lesson in God’s School is, “What Are You Listening For?” This morning, when it was barely light at the lake, I was walking our four-legged daughter, Lizzy, when I heard the orchestra warming up. It was not the sound of Earth, Wind and Fire warming up to sing “September” or the New York Philharmonic…
