Do you ever look back and mentally kick yourself? It was 60 years ago, my Spring semester at Arkansas A & M (now UAM) when I was sitting in Dr. Culpepper’s Botany class. I had chosen Ag-Business as my major. Little did I know how the events & choices over the next 60 years would cause me to think, “Boy, I wish I had paid more attention…even studied!” Yep, I squeaked by with a solid D- in now what I find fascinating. I missed an opportunity. Even though I had grown up on the farm & sat through a Botany class, I never thought about the significance of how the seed works or how it applies to my life…until now!
In the 3.21.26 “Today’s Good News” post, “Law of the Farm: The Soil – Part 1” I wrote about how plants and animals need the same chemicals all found in the soil. That’s cool but last week, while researching plants, I stumbled over this tidbit of information. Glucose. “Yes, plants absolutely need glucose. It is the primary product of photosynthesis, serving as their main energy source, building block for growth, and a key molecule for regulating development. Through respiration, plants break down glucose into energy to power metabolic activities, structural growth, and nutrient uptake.” Google
Then when I asked Google, “What is common about glucose to plants and animals?” I got this response. “Glucose is a fundamental energy source and building block in both plants and animals, serving as the primary fuel for cellular respiration to produce ATP. In both, it is used for growth, repairing tissues, and is stored for later use (as starch in plants, glycogen in animals).” This blows me away. You don’t have to be a molecular engineer to recognize only God can take the same stuff and create animals & plants out of the dirt. But hold on it gets better.
I remember Mrs. Phillips, my high school chemistry teacher, talking about matter. That points to the Truth we find in Colossians 1:16-17, “For in Him ALL THINGS were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
But when I think about it, all matter is made up of atoms. And that atoms have protons, neutrons and electrons that are always moving. That means rocks have moving parts inside, even though the rock does not move. So, when Jesus said “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20… BAM!
It was God’s Attribute of Sovereignty on full display when He turned water into blood, called out the frogs, gnats, locusts, storms, and death before Pharoah and the Israelites. God was & is In-Charge. The King of Creation, Jesus, revealed His power & authority when He turned water into wine, healed the sick, feed the 5,000, raised Lazarus from the dead, calmed the storms, and His Resurrection. These are only a few examples of God’s full authority over all matter. God simply spoke and matter obeyed. He has this power because of 3 words. “And God said” Gen 1.
So, how do I apply the Truth of God’s Sovereign Power in life? Romans 13:3 asks the hard question, “Do you want to be free from fear?” Only God can break the chains of fear. For we know from God’s Word, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7
Isn’t it time you stopped drinking from the fire hose of fear and began drinking the “Living Water” that produces Hope, Peace, Love and Joy? It’s a choice that will save your life. Isn’t it time you allowed the King of King to speak into your heart?
There is another way other than just showing up for class and going through the motions of life. God tells us, “Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to words of knowledge.” Proverbs 23:12 Because we know, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge for the ears of the wise seek it out.” Proverbs 18:15
Isn’t it time you stopped just showing up in God’s classroom?
