Do you trust the tape measure in your drawer to be the same 12 inches as the one at Home Depot?
What if you learned that a renowned school of engineering had studied the “foot rule” and “the scholars” had determined a foot was now going to be 10 inches, would you change?
When the doctor’s office scale says you have gained 10 pounds do you argue or leave & return with your “adjusted” scale telling the good doctor my scale is right?
Can you imagine the impact of everyone’s opinion determining all measurements?
Did you know, “Congress: Holds the constitutional power (Article I, Section 8) to set uniform measurement standards”? Google. Congress has the exclusive authority to set the standard. Everything else will be an opinion. With so many opinions bombarding us today, maybe…just maybe, that could be a reason there is so much anxiety today. Who do you believe?
We don’t have to like it when we measure 2 more inches around our waist or when the nice police officer pulls us over for going 85 in a 70mph zone, the standard is the standard.
All of this sounds like a “no-brainer” except there are false teachers claiming the authority to change the Bible. They use phrases like, “The Bible really doesn’t say…” or “This isn’t really what God meant” or “Times have changed so this does not apply.” When you hear these phrases, RUN! Get away. They are not of God!
Principle ONE: Scripture validates Scripture. Here are a few.
Just as Congress has the authority to determine all weights & measures, who has authority over God’s Word? Answer: Only God!
- Revelation 22:18 “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.”
- 2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
- 2 Peter 1:20-21 “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
- 2 Peter 3:15-16 “Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.”
- Matthew 22:29 “Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.”
- Luke 24:44 “He (Jesus) said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
Years ago, a retired pastor told me that the Bible had contradictions & errors. I handed him my Bible and said, “Since you have that authority to determine what is right or wrong, why don’t you take your scissors and cut out the bad parts?” He walked away.
Several years ago, a friend heard a pastor leave off a critical portion of scripture in his sermon. After the service she approached him to ask why he chose to leave part of the scripture out. He replied, “Well, there are other ways to God.” This is in direct violation to the words of Jesus found in John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Last night, 32 men from FLA, NC, KY, MO, MS, LA, TX, AR joined on Zoom for our weekly Bible Study Fellowship meeting. The only book we use is the Bible. This year we will join thousands of men, women, and children all over the world for an in-depth study of Romans.
Our focus verse for the groups that meet in North Little Rock is from Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Wouldn’t be great to know God’s will for you?

One new member of our group told us, “I’ve been looking for something like this all my life.”
