“Look it up!” Oh, how I hated that phrase. I usually responded with, “Come on, just tell me the answer!” This became much of my lifelong attribute. It’s a practice I see all too often today. Good people, so busy with no time to “search” or “seek” the truth. People coming to church with a “just give me the answer to my problem” attitude.
This must break God’s heart. Did you know the word, “Seek” is found 341 times in the Amplified Bible (AMP) translation? Ponder the words of Jesus from Matthew 6:33, “But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.” Too many times, people focus on getting “all these things” rather than having a relationship with Him. Relationships require time…personal time. It’s a choice.
When we seek Him…call out, “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” (Psalm 25:4-5) Then is when the incredible happens. We begin to discover His “WHY,” His purpose for our life. That is when God’s Great Adventure begins. We see things… experience things like never before. The things that once distracted and even angered us no longer have the negative control over our heart. We begin to recognize the little things He does… His fingerprints on the events of the day. We experience His Joy. We sense His Presence.
That’s when Jerimiah 29:11-14 comes to life. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.”
It is then we can savor the words Jesus promised, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) A full life is when there is no daylight between Jesus and us… none.
It begins with a “seeking” heart. Confused about how? Continually pray His Promise, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity (the captivating power of sin).”
Will you seek Him now?
