God School: “Cling”

It’s the dark of the night…you are alone…the storm winds are blowing…what do you do? This is life! We can find ourselves out at sea on a small boat…sitting in a hospital room…sitting in a courtroom…or staring at unpaid bills. But eventually everyone will find themselves in the dark, lonely place.

As I was preparing this message a dear & longtime Bible Study Fellowship brother called and said, “I just had to call and share a Miracle.” He went on to tell me about the dark, lonely time for him and his wife. They had gotten behind financially because of no income from December to March. But yesterday someone bought the vehicle they no longer used. It was enough to pay off their debt. I asked him, “Was there a particular scripture you prayed or lifted up” “Yes,” He quickly responded, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” God gave my friend the recall of His Word from 4 years ago in the BSF Old Testament study of Kingdom Divided. The nation of Judah was about to be wiped out. There was no “visible” hope. It was the dark & lonely night of life. That’s when the king stood before his people and prayed to God, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” 2 Chronicles 20:12. King Jehoshaphat and my friend both knew only God could save them.

What about you? Are you prepared?

Interestingly my friend did not recognize God was preparing him for something four years later. We must never forget what Scripture reminds us, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9. I have found God offers His preparation before the storms. But we have a choice.

Think about this. If my friend had not studied this scripture 4 years ago… you get the idea. It is essential to immerse our hearts & minds in His Word so that He can recall it for such a time. In Joshua 23:8 we are told “But you are to cling to the Lord your God…” How can a person “cling” to something they don’t have?

What will you cling to in those dark stormy & lonely times? Consider this, “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Romans 15:4.

Focus on this phrase, “through the encouragement of the Scriptures.” This is what Jesus did when He was temped by the Devil. He did not get into a debate or conversation; He quoted Scripture. Ponder this. The Son of God just quoted Scripture to the darkness and the darkness fled.

Isn’t it time you emersed your heart & mind in His Word…His love letter? While there are many great Bible studies available, the only one that has truly transformed my life is Bible Study Fellowship.

New In-Person & On-Line classes are forming for next year’s study of Romans. Don’t wait. Contact me (Robert) at robert@wdi-inc.com You will be Blessed.
