Christmas Memories…

To some these are “just” Tupperware containers but to me, they hold precious memories of past Christmas seasons. Before Thanksgiving mother would begin her annual candy & cookie production. In the large round container, she would have layers of fudge separated by sheets of wax paper. Each piece was about 1 ½ “ thick and cut into 2” by 2” pieces. It was the kind of fudge that would melt in your mouth when you sank your teeth into it… her fudge was like none other. The rich goodness was almost spiritual. It would stop you in your tracks.

Then there were the chocolate dipped candies topped with a pecan half layered in a Tupperware container. She also made divinity, but next to the fudge, my favorite Christmas memory, were her pinwheel date cookies. Oh my…I will never forget sitting at the kitchen table eating her pinwheel cookies as they came out of the oven with a glass of cold milk. She had several containers of these memory-makers.

Mother would hide the containers throughout the house until the week before Christmas (this week). That was the week she brought her treasures out from hiding. That was when she discovered Dad & I had been sneaking around taking fudge, candy & cookies from the lower levels so she would not notice. But ya know… she knew all along. It brought a smile to her heart.

Farrar (my mother) used her kitchen & these containers to say “I love you” to so many people. What came from her kitchen would cause you to pause and savor the incredible flavors. She lived out Hallmark’s tag line, “When you care enough, you send your very best.”

That is what our Heavenly Father did. He cared enough to send His very best, His Son. This Christmas I encourage you to slip away from the hustle & busy and spend time with Him. Open His love-letter, His container, the Bible, and allow Him to whisper to your heart.

Open His gift, “Yes, God loved the world so much that He gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world. He did not send him to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him.”

He is the gift that keeps on giving. Go find the container…

Merry Christmas
