God School: The Big Idea

For years I mistakenly thought I had a lot of good ideas. In fact, when they worked, I wanted everyone to know who had the idea. But since I have retired and started writing Today’s Good News, I recognize the ideas, the memories, the scripture pops in my mind are from Him. I call these ideas that suddenly seem to float across my heart… His whispers.

A Note To The Reader: Not all my ideas are from God. As long as I take a breath on this earth, I will also have bone-headed thoughts. I have learned to recognize the difference. All His ideas point to Him. My ideas, well they point to me. And He Always connects His ideas with scripture…Always.

Morning after morning, since March 17, 2020, He has never failed. I have a ritual. I sit down with a cup of coffee in the quiet of the early morning. Sitting there I pray, read scripture or He guides me through my “TGN Idea,” He does something I can’t describe with words. In a matter of moments, He connects the topic, memory, and scripture. Over the next hour or so I locate a picture and try to phrase words clearly & correctly then pass it onto Mary for her editing. This is a God provision. He blows me away. One of my Joys is when someone replies, “I really needed this today.” I respond, “I had no idea. Please know He was thinking about you when He crafted the story for me to send out.”

So many people miss this Joy of experiencing God because they believe the lies, they tell themselves. The lie of “I Can’t.” Everyone starts with can’t. My childhood friends, who receive Today’s Good News know I couldn’t tell the difference between a verb, an adverb or an adjective. Why would God choose a dyslexic guy who on his best day in English hoped for a “C”! Add to this He choose a person with poor repetitive skills to consistently publish a message of encouragement called “Today’s Good News.” But that’s God.

I have learned from Bible study God specializes in the impossible. He uses people with no apparent skill or ability to reveal His Power & Grace. It’s found in Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, all the disciples and Paul who persecuted Followers of Christ. But one of my favorites is when God wanted the wall around Jerusalem rebuilt. The stones for the wall weighed tons and the people were hostile. So, God chose a man with no engineering or leadership experience. God chose Nehamiah who described himself as “I was cupbearer to the king.” Nehemiah 1:11. Think about it, Nehemiah was a food taster.

I encourage you to seek the incredible Joy of ACTIVELY following Him. Everyone of His Followers receives a job assignment. It will probably begin the way Nehemiah describes it in Nehemiah 7:5, “So my God gave me the idea.” If God gave you an idea…it’s a Big Idea!!!! Don’t worry about what people may think…just follow Him. As for your limitations, hang on. This is the exciting part. You have a front row seat to watch Him move & provide. Welcome to “God’s Great Adventure.” He will take you places you never imagined.

You are special to Him. Don’t miss the gift of His Joy. He has an idea for you!
