Seeing Around Corners & Curves

Life is full of sharp curves & blind corners. Life is like going down the highway, foot on the floor, just fat dumb & happy when suddenly…it’s a curve. You have no idea what is on the other side. What are you going to do?

Your sharp curve, blind corner might be, “We are going to let you go at work”, “The bank called and your check bounced”, “Mom, Dad, I’m leaving home”, “The test shows that you have cancer”, “I can’t do this anymore, I am leaving you” or “This is Sargent Smith, I hate to inform you there has been an accident and…”. These and many more phrases will rock your world. What are you going to do?

After the initial shock you have a choice, go it alone or turn to Him, the source of all Power & Hope, Jesus. Jesus told us in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” You might say, “Robert, that sounds good but…!” I have experienced many of these sharp curves, the “Impossible” situations that had no way out. I was hopeless until I cried out to Jesus.

Crying out to Jesus did not make the problem go away but it did give me the strength, confidence, and wisdom, as Paul said, to “Press on.” As I look back on every sharp & blind curve, God had already been ahead of me…He not only knew but had placed people & resources ahead of me, waiting with just what I needed and just in time. David said it this way, “If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day” Psalm 139:8-12.

Praying, searching the Scripture, and seeking wisdom are not only natural but essential when we find ourselves in the breath-taking curves of life but don’t miss the what I call God’s Power-Boost. It’s the Principle of, “Nothing-Just-Happens.” I encourage my friends & family in the sharp curves of life to journal each day the facts of the day. It normally does not take long before you begin to see a pattern of how God moved someone, or an event, into your life that changes everything. I call this, God’s fingerprints.

It’s when we begin to recognize God’s fingerprints on our back, on other people and events that we develop the confidence & strength of “No-Matter-What” Faith. In 1994 I received what should have been a death sentence… cancer… but by the Garce of God I am here today to encourage you to, “Press on”. I have come to recognize not only was I never alone, but the blind & sharp curve was not just about me, but it was something much bigger than me. He was giving me a story to reveal His Power, His Love, His only way to Redemption, Jesus. This is at the heart of “Today’s Good News.”

I encourage you, pay attention to the details, His fingerprints on your life. God is daily giving you opportunities to draw closer to Him… to be near Him… to hear His whispers of “I love you.”

It had been an unexplainably bad night of fishing when the Disciples heard from the shore, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” (John 21:5) There on the distant shore they saw a campfire, smelled the breakfast and…yes, it was Jesus. He knew they didn’t have a fish. Then there He was, with just what they needed.
