Disappointed…

Have you ever had someone let you down? Maybe it’s the person in a position who could help you but didn’t. These people begin showing up early in our lives on the playground at school, then at work, at church, of course politics, and even at home. As I write I begin to remember people I trusted…people I placed my loyalty in that let me down. This creates the choice. What to do with disappointment?

This choice will either destroy or strengthen us. Unchecked disappointment will turn into discouragement, maybe anger and then unforgiveness. Today nothing lights up a conversation like politics. People begin arguing over things they have only heard about and have no control over what damages the relationship. Hurting people hurt people. When we continually trust others & ourselves more than we trust God it will end the same, disappointed.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Because God knows us & loves us, He gave us His Word, “The Guidebook For Living.” We find in Psalm 146:3-6, “Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.”  I am strengthened by reading His Word. I recognize He has remained fully in control through the ages. He is the Sovereign & Holy God who will fulfill His Unchanging Plan…in His Perfect Way…in His Precise Time.

Here is the life strategy David used. “Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to His anointed. He answers him from His heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of His right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Psalm 20:6-7. It was not in David’s skill with a slingshot that he ran down the valley to what many thought was his death but, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” 1 Samuel 17:45

Who do you trust?
