I’m sure people who know me are saying to themselves, “What does Robert know about blood? He barely got out of school.” And they are right, but this is what He put on my heart to share with you.
Last week before I saw my endocrinologist (diabetic doctor), she ran an A1C Blood Test to check the sugar level in my blood. Here is the fascinating part of the test. Johns Hopkins Medicine tells us, “The hemoglobin A1C test measures how much glucose has attached to red blood cells in your blood. This provides a view of your blood sugar levels over the past three months.” Think about it…man has discovered one of God’s mysteries. Our blood has a memory bank with a 90-day rolling average of our sugar levels. How does that work? Read on.
Medically speaking, the answer to the question, “What’s in the blood?’ is enormous and way over my head but Spiritually we learn God has a lot to say about blood. Never forget, He Created Everything. In the NIV Translation the Bible contains 392 scripture references to “Blood”.
Do you remember Adam & Eve’s first 2 kids, Cain & Abel? Remember how Cain’s jealousy (self-centeredness) resulted in killing his brother Abel? Remember how Cain thought no one knew his secret? Yet, The All-Knowing God called Cain out in Genesis 4:10. The Lord said, “What have you (Cain) done? Listen! Your brother’s (Abel) blood cries out to me from the ground.” Did you get it? Abel’s blood cried out to God! Nothing we do escapes God. Nothing!
We also learn from Leviticus 17:11 “For the life of a creature is in the blood…” But there is more to this verse. As the rest of the verse reads, “and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” Oh my. God is clearly pointing to Jesus in this Old Testament scripture.
One of the fascinating Redemption Markers (pointing to Jesus) is found when God was preparing His people to be redeemed from their bondage in Egypt. God specifically told the people to slaughter a perfect lamb and spread the blood over the door frame of their home. Exodus 12:23 “When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, He will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.” We remember the Power of the Blood today with Passover.
Then on Passover, Jesus, the Son of God chose to be our Passover Lamb. John, the Baptist, declared in John 1:29, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
As we study God’s Word we discover the power of the precious blood of Jesus in 1 Peter 1:18-20 “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.”
God gave Paul these words in Ephesians 1:7 “In Him (Jesus) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” And in Romans 3:25 “God presented Christ (Jesus, His One and Only Son) as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of His (Jesus) blood—to be received by faith.”
So, how does it work? We are told in Romans 10:9-10 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
But you might ask, “Ok but how does God do that? I don’t know. I also don’t know how my blood is able to have a 90-day average of my blood sugars, but both are true. I know Jesus made it crystal clear in John 14:6, He is the only way to Heaven, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Don’t be fooled by the world.
There is Life in the Blood…There is Hope in the Blood…There is Power in the Blood of Jesus. Isn’t it time you found the Power? Call out His Name. He is waiting for you.
Amen!
