TGN’s, The Lessons From God School, illustrates the supremacy of His Word as the source of All Truth. It is the Guidebook For Living.” For Believers it is our cornerstone, our true north authority of right & wrong. When a Follower of Christ allows the Holy Spirit to whisper, guide & teach His Word, the Bible comes alive…The Living Word of God.
In God School there are tests. Many of the substantial tests show up in God’s Lab Sessions (Life). It is the Lab Sessions where God encourages us to refer to His Textbook (Bible) for the correct formula. While I found my academic lab sessions fun when something blew up or created a stink, in God School Lab Sessions, it’s seldom funny. In fact, God usually repeats the lab session if we fail the test.
Last night I watched a dear friend experience his lab session. It had been a brutal week, and he felt rugged. He expressed to me that he did not feel up to leading his men in Bible study… but he did. After being bathed in prayer I watched the Holy Spirit minister to him. His energy, his spark ignited the men in their discussion of Revelation. “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 I offered to lead his group, but he said, “Let me try and see what happens.” Because he chose to “Press on…” the Lord Blessed him in a mighty way.
I experienced one of my biggest God Lab Sessions 40 years ago. I could write a book about how God maneuvered, orchestrated people and events as He put me in position. One of those God interventions was 9 months before I heard the words, “that’s cancer and you have to deal with it” … God put on my heart to read Proverbs every day. Then Monday afternoon when the doctor pointed to the cancer the word, “wisdom” flooded my soul. Wisdom became a key to my response to this experience. I would learn to recognize God’s “fingerprints” on how He was in charge. The doctor who removed my cancerous kidney asked me 3 times before the surgery, “Do you understand how serious this is?” I replied each time, “Yes, I know I may die.” Then the day he was checking me out of the hospital he said, “You know you are very luc…, that’s right you don’t believe in luck.” And I replied, “You know doc, you are a great technician, but you were never in charge.”
So where did this strength & confidence come from? It certainly did not come from me. God reminded me of the powerful example of someone else drowning in a storm of life…you remember Peter? There was Peter caught up in a terrible storm with his buddies. Peter had believed and responded to Jesus by getting out of the boat and walking on the stormy sea to Jesus. But then, like we all tend to do, Peter took his eyes off Jesus, “The Authority” and looked at the storm. Sinking into the sea about to drown he cried out, “Save me, Lord!” BAM! I encourage you to read and ponder this example found in Matthew 14:22-33. This is what I would hang onto for 5 years until I was declared “cancer free”. I relentlessly kept my eyes on Jesus. Just like Peter’s storm, mine was real too. It was God’s Living Word that encouraged me to, “Press on…”
Fifteen months ago, a dear friend called to tell me he and his wife were in a super storm. As he talked, God recalled His Word to me to give my friend. It came from a previous Bible study of the King Jehoshaphat when the nation was about to be overrun by a superior army. The king stood before God and his people and prayed,
“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” 2 Chronicles 20:12.
When God tells us over and over in the Old & New Testament, He is always with us, trust Him. Go to His Living Word. You too can find the power of His Word in your storm.
Amen!
