Unique…

One great thing about growing up in the 1960’s was the cool cars. Cars today are primarily gray or white. No matter how much you pay, they all seem to look alike. This was not the case when I was growing up. The cool, pink & white 1955 Ford Crown Top Victoria in the picture looks exactly like my brother’s. The coolest car ever!

People were identified by the uniqueness of their car. The expression, “He drives a …,” was common. But cars were not the only way. While we all wore ironed blue jeans with a narrow cuff at the bottom, white socks & penny loafers, narrow belts & narrow ties, guys also set themselves apart by their hair cut. These were our unique signatures.

Being unique is really a God thing. Search the Bible and you will find unique people. Starting with Adam, Noah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Isaiah, all the kings & prophets were unique & flawed. Then there were the 12 Disciples, with their flaws, that Jesus chose. It is obvious God specializes in unique people. Not perfect people. Like our fingerprints, we are different by design. The other day I heard an interview with Dr. Gabor Mate’, a well-known trauma doctor. He said the number one regret of dying people is, “They didn’t have the courage to be themselves.” And the 3rd was, “Not having the courage to express their emotions.” The world today uses division to devalue people that do not conform to its ways. It’s the fear of being “cancelled!”

When you study the Bible figures mentioned, one of characteristic stands out, their courage to be the unique person God designed them to be. Paul gives us a clue of how we can live a full life with no regrets. God told Paul, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” (Then Paul proclaimed) “So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. Paul knew he was a unique messenger, but his focus was not about him, but the message of the Good News.

Paul wrote what all unique people of God know…only God has this much power. When we are obedient to God, He will give us what we need & when we need it. Jesus is enough! You can trust Him. When we face the impossible situations, as Paul did over and over, we can use Paul’s words, “I PRESS ON to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3:14. He kept moving toward the goal…Jesus.

Isn’t it time you reached your full potential? The secret is not found in you but in Him! He’s listening & waiting…

Jerry’s first car was a 57 Red & White Chevrolet that looked a whole lot like the car below. He was so proud of it but then he traded it in when the new ones came out and followed that pattern every year until he got married. Having a brand new car was “his thing!”
