From The Farm: The Scraper

Without a scraper on the disc blade, the disc can’t do its job. As you can see from the picture it’s a piece of steel that is mounted to the disc. As the disc blade cuts into the soil, the scraper does its job by not allowing the dirt to accumulate on the blade.

This is what the Holy Spirit does for a Believer. The Holy Spirit, that lives in a “Follower of Christ,” scraps off our dirt of life. Life is like working a field…it’s dirty work. Even though a person has given their heart & life to Christ, we will get dirt (sin) on us. If it is not removed it will accumulate and make our witness, our job, ineffective. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:26

The other night I woke up with the Holy Spirit scraping the dirt off. He brought to my memory how I had responded to a question with self-pride (sin). God had provided incredible Blessings and yet I did as David did in 2 Samuel 24:10, “And David’s heart condemned him after he had numbered the people. So, David said to the Lord, “I have sinned greatly in what I have done; but now, I pray, O Lord, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly.”

Notice that the Holy Spirit used God’s Word to not only point to my sin but give me a living example of how I broke His Heart. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” 2 Timothy 3:16

There is a dangerous temptation to remove or ignore the scrapers from our lives. God warns us today in Acts 7:51, “You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.”

Because God knows our heart…knows our thoughts…our sin and loves us, warts & all He provides us with “THE Way” to wash us clean. “…not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” Titus 3:5

Only God can clean us up. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

Father, forgive me for the sin of pride. Please bind & remove the pride from my life. Thank you for loving me more than I can comprehend.

I have learned more about big farming from your devotionals than I ever thought possible. I love these analogies. Oh brother, do I need that constant scraper too. Perhaps a clamp on my mouth would be effective. Loved this! Keep up the good work.
