I never was a good math student. In fact, had it not been for my friends in high school allowing me to copy their algebra work, I would not have passed. I did learn one thing though, everything counts. If you change one thing in an equation it will change the outcome.
Such as it is with our lives. At 77 I recognize everything I have done has brought me to where I am now, everything! The good jobs, good bosses, successes, health, friends, family AND the bad jobs, bad bosses, failures, hurts, sickness, and my good & bad choices have all been part of the equation God used. I am convinced “That-Nothing-Just-Happens!”
One of God’s attributes that I love so much is how He chooses insignificant people in the world, to do godly things. God is so cool. He wants us to be part of His Great Work…to be an active participant. We study His Wonders, but many times read over the details. Let’s take Matthew 14:13-21 where Jesus fed the 5,000 people.
The people were hungry but there was no food. Jesus knew this when He told His Disciples, “You give them something to eat.” Think about it. Jesus just told His Disciples to feed the hungry people, and they had no obvious way to obey. In John 6:1-15, we see Andrew bringing a boy with 5 small loaves & 2 fish to Jesus. Jesus instructs everyone to sit down and after, he Blessed the food and gave it to the Disciples to pass out. They were able to obey because Jesus provided more than enough for what He had asked of them. We read in Matthew 14:20-21, “They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.” The Miracle happened “in the disciple’s hands”. The little became more than enough.
As Believers, we have no excuse for not answering His call. Jesus told His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.” Matthew 9:36-38.
Today there is so much anxiety. People are worried about the economy, war, the election, health, kids, family and on & on. There is only One Answer, Jesus. Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:20, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Paul expresses his trust in Jesus in Romans 8:38-39, “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
The time for sitting this one out is over! We are called to be His Workers, “IN” the field. You & I are part of the equation to tell the Good News of Jesus. Can you be counted on? There is much work to be done. It is a question of obedience.

So true, Jesus provides more than enough. Denny is always telling me this when I start to express concern about things. He is famous for telling me, Mother, don’t you trust God! He is in control! He will provide what you need. Isn’t that what you are always teaching? Ouch!
Every time I read this story, I am amused that not only did Jesus feed the vast multitude but he also provided a basket of leftovers to provide a later meal for the 12 doubting disciples. Jesus had a sense of humor!
