“First, Put What You Have in Your Hand Down and Then Take It With Both Hands.”

Several weeks ago, we had a tea party with our 6 & 9-year-old granddaughters. Mary got her mom’s teacups out for this special time. Like children they wanted to help. I remember Mary saying, “First, Put Down What You Have in Your Hand and Then Take It With Both Hands.” Sound familiar? Makes sense. And it worked.

But what about us…You know, the big people, the adults? Do you find yourself trying to hold more than one thing in your hand at a time? Do you find yourself cleaning up “broken teacups”? What about the teacups of relationships with family, co-workers, friends…people important in your life? When we were with them did, we go through the motion of being with them while looking at our phone or thinking of other things? What about the most precious thing we have, time? Time that cannot be replaced, borrowed, saved, or loaned. Time, that once it’s used, it’s gone. Time is a gift God has given us to be used intentionally and not allowed to slip through our fingers.

Look around, everywhere we go there are teacups of strained & broken relationships and time lost. You see it in the anxiety of the day…in the mirror this morning as you rushed out the door. But what’s the answer…what’s the quick fix?

First, the “fix” is not quick, but it is certain. It’s not what you would think is practical or even what you want to do but here it is…PUT Jesus first in your life. Drop everything in your hand and give Him your undivided attention!

But how? It begins with giving Him your undivided attention first thing in the morning. This may mean going to bed 30 minutes earlier so you can get up 30 minutes earlier to spend one-on-one time with Him in prayer & studying His Word. We will always struggle with our relationships & time until we get our relationship right with Jesus. It is during these one-on-one times we ask Him for Wisdom, Strength, Peace…for Guidance. Jesus has told us in Revelation 3:20, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Jesus tells us He is: The Bread of Life; Light of the World; The Door; The Good Shepherd; The Resurrection; The Way, the Truth, The Life; The True Vine…and that He is always with us! Jesus is enough! All He asks is that we give Him our undivided attention, to put Him first in you your heart, mind & soul. When asked, what is the most important, Jesus replied, “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:37-39

Have you had enough of feeling sick & tired of cleaning up your broke teacups? Listen to this Promise of Jesus in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  Just call out His Name wherever you are. He is right where you are. “Jesus, I need you!”

    1. The cool thing about this is, I didn’t know but He did. It’s how Our incredible Father loves us…He uses people to deliver His Blessings. If we do not respond to His whispers…we will not have the Joy of being part of His incredible Way. Oh what a Savior. Press on…
