It was the first night at scout camp. The Scout Master had assigned a younger fellow to my tent. This was his first night in the woods…in a tent…on a rainy night. Moments after I turned the lantern out, his flashlight came on. I watched as he flashed it from top to bottom…side to side. The longer the light was on, the more bugs came in from the rain. I told him all was ok, and he reluctantly turned his flashlight off until…he heard the natural sounds of the woods on a rainy night. When we woke up the next morning, he was very tired and had no flashlight battery for the rest of our camping trip.
Are you like the young camper, using the world’s temporary source of light to go through this dark, rainy time? How do you respond to the bugs…the strange sounds…the miserable conditions of life? How will you respond when the batteries or temporary power of this world run out? Do you find yourself exhausted at the beginning of the day from having no peace at night? Good news…You have a choice.
Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33. In John 8:12, “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” Then In Revelation 3:7, Jesus gives us the authority for His Promise…the Promise of Hope, “These are the words of Him who is Holy and True, who holds the key of David. What He (Jesus) opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my Word and have not denied my name.”
Maybe this is your first camping trip, or you are tired of camping…and have no peace. Jesus is our Only Hope! He is ”THE” source of Eternal Peace. It is not complicated to receive this everlasting Peace. The thief on the cross showed us the way. From Luke 23:40-43, “But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man (Jesus) has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Today, right now, Peace can come to your heart, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
I probably would have run my flashlight battery down too. Love this one!
