Belonging…No matter who you are or what you have, belonging is a core need. Abraham Maslow in 1943 identified “Belonging” as the third level of important needs. Only Physiological needs of food, water and Safety/Security are more important. The fear of being “Canceled” is a fear the world uses to control people. Think about it. The world’s rules of acceptance are not written, are always changing, and policed by self-appointed judges that are usually anonymous.
Last Sunday in church, the verse to this song jumped out at me…. “I don’t have to worry if I am wanted…” The difference between the world’s way & God’s way…is simple, the difference between daylight & dark.
God’s Way…
• Is for Relationship. In Genesis we find God created man for a relationship with Him. Genesis 1:26, “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Our Creator, “devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from Him.” 2 Samuel 14:14
• Is Written. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” We no longer need to depend on the opinion of anyone, we have God’s written Word.
• Is Unchanging. Hebrews 6:17, “Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, He confirmed it with an oath.” When we study history, it is easy to recognize only God’s unchanging Word has stood the test of time over thousands of years.
• Is the Supreme Gift Available to All. John 3:16-18, “For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him (Jesus) shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” Jesus gave His life for all, no matter who you are or what you have done, to be forever with Him in eternity.
• Is More Powerful Than the World. Romans 8:38-39, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” God’s Word proves He has & will provide the “No-Matter-What” power to stand against all odds in impossible situations.
• Is the Only Way. John 11:25, “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” and John 14:6, “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” There simply is no other way, because God the Father sent His one & only Son (John 3:16).
• Is Uncancelable. Revelation 3:5, “All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and His angels that they are mine.” Stephen received his victory while standing up for Christ. Acts 7:55, “But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed steadily into heaven and saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand.”
• Is Clear. Romans 10:9, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Note, a person cannot work or pay their way into Heaven. God’s Way is only through Mercy & Grace. Deuteronomy 10:17, “He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed.” Worldly things have no value in Heaven.
Listen to the words of David, a man that experienced being canceled many times. Psalm 71:5, “For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth.” I know that no matter how terrible things may get in this world, I have Jesus as my confidence, my peace, my provider. I was that “Lost Sheep” that Jesus spoke about in Luke 15:3-7.
Isn’t it time for you to “Really Belong”? Jesus is at the door of your heart knocking (Revelation 3:20) …Let Him in. You will be Blessed.
Loved this. It is such a blessing to know how badly God wants us to have a relationship with Him. He paid the price and made it so easy for us. We are never alone.
Good job!
