The Farm: The Essential Role of the Sun.

On the surface the “Lessons from The Farm” reveal a simple application to life, we will always harvest what we plant. But underneath, it’s a very complex system of details, balances & synchronization. Over the next few TGN’s I will attempt to highlight each of the 5 Essentials of the Farm: The Sun, Air, Water, Soil and the Seed. Only God can design something so complex that has proven to work since the beginning of time. All creation reveals “Nothing-Just-Happens.” There are simply too many miraculous details that must happen at the right time, in the right amount to explain it any other way but, Only God.

The Sun plays 2 essential functions.

  1. The “Sun” provides the energy that heats the soil to germinate the seed.

“Seeds require a certain temperature to germinate (come to life). Each plant has a specific optimum and a range within which germination will occur. Most seeds germinate when the soil temperature is between 68° and 86°F.” For rice, “The soil should be 60°F at a depth of 4 inches for 2–3 days before planting, while soybeans, 70º F.” Google

The Sun provides the energy…power for life.

  • “Sun Light energy results in photosynthesis that changes minerals into food for the plant. “Here’s how the sun’s energy is used in photosynthesis:
    • Chlorophyll absorbs the sun’s energy. Chlorophyll is a pigment in plant cell chloroplasts that absorbs red and blue light from the sun, while reflecting green light. This is why some leaves appear green.
    • Light-harvesting complexes (LHCs) are excited when sunlight hits a leaf, each photon (particle of light) gives energy to an LHC, which then passes the energy to another LHC until it reaches a reaction center.
    • Chemical reactions occur. At the reaction center, the energy drives chemical reactions that split water molecules into oxygen gas and positively charged protons. The protons then activate an enzyme that produces carbohydrates that fuel the plant’s metabolism.” Google

The Transforming power of the Sun changes what is seen into the life-giving food in ways we do not see. Without sunlight green plants cannot make food and the plant dies.

The Sun is essential for people. “People need some sunlight for their health and well-being. Sunlight helps the body produce vitamin D, which is essential for bone health, calcium absorption, and immune system functioning. It also may help lower blood pressure, prevent disease, and promote good mental health.” Google.

Let’s refer back to God’s Farm Manual, the Bible, about His Farm. In Genesis 1:1-3 we see how it all began, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be…” God spoke to create everything. We learn in Genesis 1:26 that God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit were all part of creation. “Then God said, “Let “us” make mankind in “our” image, in our likeness…”

Both God’s creation of plants and animals need the same thing, the sun.

Just as the sun has essential transforming power for life so does the Son, Jesus.

Jesus & the Holy Spirit have provided the Light that has warmed my (soil) heart to germinate His Seed of Hope (Eternal Life with Him). Jesus said:

  • John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” He is our Light.
  • John 14:26 “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” He (The Light) is our only way.
  • John 11:25 “I am the resurrection and the life.” He is our only Hope.
  • And in Acts 1:8 we have this. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Life requires energy. He is our unfailing, 24/7, Energy.

All of this happened because, “For God (the Father) so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him (Jesus) shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

God loves us. He has provided His Creation in such a way that since time it has provided life on earth. Through Jesus, God provides eternal life with Him. Thousands of years ago He gave us this promise, “The Lord is God, and He has made His light shine on us.” Ps 118:27 Are you allowing the SON, The Light, to reflect through your life? Do people see Jesus in your life?
