Just When You Thought Nothing Was Working Out…

What followed after the Resurrection of Jesus was so powerful and personal. “After His (Jesus) suffering, He presented Himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.” Acts 1:3.

One of those appearances is found in John 21. So much happened in the last weeks and the disciples returned to what they knew before they met Jesus…they went fishing. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.” Jn 21:3 Do you feel like the disciples…confused & working hard with no results?

Jesus knew they were hurting & confused; He went where they were. “Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish…When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread.” John 21:4-6,9. Jesus knows it’s been a long dark time and no fish in the net. He does not call out in judgement…He calls out, “Friends.”

Jesus tells us, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Revelation 3:20.

He is ready on your bank with a warm fire, fresh fish, and most of all His loving relationship. Won’t you join Him, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” You can open the door to Freedom with saying, “Jesus I need you…”

Wow… The greatest invitation ever extended! It’s freely given and boils down to simply accepting the invitation; yet, we in our humanity make it complicated.
