Law of the Farm: Seed Explains Dead-To-Self

“If only” I had taken advantage of the opportunity I might have recognized what God was telling me. One of my majors when I went to college, the first time, was Ag-Business. I remember sitting in Botany class thinking, “Nothing exciting here!” How wrong I was.

Over the last 20 years God has been revealing to me the power found in the Law of the Farm. Take for instance a simple soybean seed. I helped my dad plant 1,200 to 1,400 acres of soybeans year after year. We planted them and a few days later the field started turning green. But it was not until the last few years researching for Today’s Good News did it dawn on me that the root was the first thing that emerged from the seed. But there is much more.

“The radical (root) is the first structure to emerge from the germinating seed, usually within 48 hours of planting under optimum conditions. The radical grows downward rapidly and can provide moisture to the germinating seed. The hypocotyl is the seedling structure that emerges from the soil surface.” University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture, Research & Extension

In searching through my accumulated farm information, I found this from an April 19, 2019, Families Free article. “The seed, which contains the fullest potential of life, ceases to be a seed so that the plant inside may live. Essentially, its original form has died, and the seed becomes something new.” In fact, there is no evidence of the seed body in the ground after the plant burst through the ground. God told us in 1 Corinthians 15:36 (NKJV), “Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies.”

“When a seed is exposed to the proper conditions, water and oxygen are taken in through the seed coat. The embryo’s cells start to enlarge. Then, the seed coat breaks open and the root emerges first, followed by the shoot that contains the leaves and stem. Sunlight supports germination.” West Virginia University.

Now I have a greater understanding of Galatians 2:20 (NKJV), “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” Galatians 2:20 (NLT)

God’s Ways…God’s Truth…all found in His incredible Word taught to us by a seed. God’s Word, Check it out.
