Oh, how I wish I could ask mom & dad some questions. One would be, why… they put my cake, with 3 burning candles in the middle of the yard? As I look back at old pictures many were taken outside. Yesterday our family celebrated my birthday. While I did not have a cake outside, we did take our family picture outside. Some things just don’t seem to change.
Years ago, a TV reporter asked my Aunt Jo, on her 90th birthday, “Ms. Josephine, in your you have witnessed the beginning of electricity and all its modern conveniences, the telephone, television, even a man on the moon. What would you consider the greatest change?” She rocked her chair a couple of times and said, ‘Time! People today, with all their modern conveniences, don’t have time. We had more time to be with our family and friends, and we had to grow & raise all our food, do daily chores and work hard every day. But Sunday was a day of rest.’ She said that 35+ years ago.
With that same question I ask myself, “what’s the biggest change in my lifetime?” I believe it is a life-strategy of “TRYING” to do it all! I remember juggling all my bosses: work, family, friends, church, children’s activities, and what I wanted to do. It left me exhausted at the end of the day. I didn’t say “no” to anyone because I didn’t want to disappoint them. I’ve learned that it’s not the evil & bad things that distract me. I am easily distracted by fun & good things I like to do. I have learned “No” is impossible without a purpose. A person’s purpose enables them to prioritize all of life’s demands.
As I studied this week’s Bible Study Fellowship lesson, I recognized how God said it so well. He gave all Believers the key for each day. We should live each day focused on Him. And when we do, the fruit of our life will be as Zechariah 8:23 says, “Please let us walk with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”
Jesus simply said, “’You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:37-39.
What’s your priority?
