Law Of The Farm: The Supplier Of The Seed

On the Farm we never wanted to run out of seed… never. But we also didn’t want to buy too much seed because we did not have a temperature-controlled storage. One afternoon dad sent one of the men to Alice-Sidney Dryer & Seed Co in Dermott, Arkansas to get a pickup truck load of rice seed. Dad trusted them for good seed and always having enough. They never let him down. I remember the overloaded pickup, nose in the air, driving into the field…just in time.

God has a lot to say in His Word about how farming teaches us about Him, His expectations and how to live. In Luke 8:11 we learn, “The seed is the word of God.” Think about this. As long as the seed remains stored in the sack it does nothing. For the seed to work it must be placed in the ground when the temperature & moisture is just right. There it will geminate and come to life. This is exactly what God’s Word does. As long as your Bible remains unopened it cannot be planted in your heart to germinate and come to life to produce the harvest.

Paul goes on to tell us more about the seed in 2 Corinthians 9:10, “Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” The God of Creation only has good seed and will never run out. We learn from Philippians 4:19 “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.”

This morning one of our Bible Study Fellowship Group Leaders called to tell me how powerful the Wednesday night Zoom meeting had been. We have been studying Haggai 1 & 2, Sowing & Reaping or Making God Your Priority. His group is made up of men in their 80’s to men in their 20’s, black, white, different vocations, economic and political backgrounds. God also selected 2 men who are bedridden and one in a wheelchair. Note: we never have arguments over differences because we focus on one thing, God’s Word and not opinions.

But Wednesday night was special. Jerry asked one of the men participating from his bed, “What’s your purpose?” The man said, “To Praise God.” Ponder that for a moment. The man’s purpose is to Praise God. Please know for certain that the world did not teach him to praise God, it was God’s Word. Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Only God has this transformational power.

Maybe this finds you weary of the world. I have Good News, God’s Word is alive & well and available to you, wherever you are. Yes, even from your bed or your wheelchair or wherever. Bible Study Fellowship is a world-wide Bible study focused on one thing, “Our mission is global, in-depth Bible studies producing passionate commitment to Christ, His Word and His Church.
