I remember mail calls when I was in the Air Force. When my name was called, I jumped up to grab the letter. The first thing I looked for was the return address. Nothing was more important at the moment, Nothing!
Love letters are personal. If you don’t know the person writing, then it doesn’t mean much. But if you know the person… really know them, you find yourself reading and rereading each line. As you read you can almost hear their voice… you sense their presence. It’s personal. Time stops. You dwell in the moment.
God’s Word, the Bible, is His love letter to us. If you don’t know Him, it’s just another book. “His voice you have never heard, His form you have never seen, and you do not have His word abiding in you” John 5:37-38
But when you “KNOW” Him, it changes everything.
Knowing Jesus is different than knowing about Jesus. Nicodemus came in the night because he recognized he only knew about Jesus. Jesus told Nicodemus he had to be “born again” (John 3:3) to know Him. We read in Romans 10:9 to be born again means, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
But being saved is just the beginning of knowing Him. Our Father knew we needed help. Jesus told us in John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
This is why without The Holy Spirit Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2:14, “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.”
The Bible, God’s Love Letter, is full of love, encouragement, intrigue, mystery, instructions, corrections, warnings, and tender moments.
“We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true. And we are in Him who is true by being in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” 1 John 5:20
It’s mail call. Your name has been called. Is there anything more important than His love letter to you?
