God School?

Several years ago, God gave me the concept of “God School.” What followed was a process that has helped me understand life. God School is composed of The Bible, Classroom Lectures, Study and Life-Lab. I believe Followers of Christ are enrolled in God School when they are “Born Again” (John 3:3,7).

1.   The “Textbook” is the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God, the supreme and final authority without error. Unlike books written by man, God does not sugarcoat or cover up wrongs. Also, unlike human books, the Bible uses people with flaws to reveal His love & His saving Grace & Power. The only Hero in the Bible is God. ”All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16,17

2.   The “Classroom” is where we receive instruction on God’s Word such as a Pastor’s sermon, Sunday School lessons, Bible study, and such. All classroom instruction should be in complete agreement with the Bible.

3.   The “LifeLab” is life…where choices are made. When we chose to not follow textbook formulas… the lab experiments usually blow up. This results in embarrassment, injury and pain for us and others and perhaps a devastating failure. God does not desire for us to live in failure. He is the God of Grace & Mercy…of second chances or do-overs. “Yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins.” (Romans 3:24) Listen to God’s heart from Deuteronomy 5:29, “Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!” Blessings Follow Obedience!

God’s Life-Lab Sessions are hard. They test your heart. They reveal if you walk the talk. There have been several lab subjects that I have had to repeat because I failed so miserably.

One in particularly is, “Wait On God.” It usually starts out with a great idea, which is Biblically sound and one that honors God. Sounds good, right? Then I get excited and take off. I tell myself, “I know what needs to be done… I’ll recruit these people, find these resources… it’s going to be great!” Then BAM! Everything falls apart. I got frustrated & embarrassed. Why am I surprised? The Bible is full of self-centered, prideful people who got ahead of God and failed. It’s all written in the Textbook. I’ve been to class and study this very subject, and yet…

So, I’m back in Life-Lab again until I learn to follow, Psalm 46:10, “He (God) says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

I am so glad God loves me enough that my “Fs” have not been final. That is also found in God’s Textbook, 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

Today’s Word from Psalm 16:11, “YOU make known to me the path of life; in YOUR presence there is fullness of JOY; at YOUR right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

I hope to see you in class. Enrollment is always open for everyone because “Every Soul Matters To God.”
