What Will 2026 Be Like?

Some see storms, floods, destruction, and loss. And others see bright, warm, sunny days. What do you see?

In reality, it will be some of both. But at the core, how we deal with both will be determined by what our heart tells us. Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” Earl Nightingale said it this way, “You become what you think about.” Think about that for a moment. What have you thought about in 2025? Are you happy with the results?

Today we are people of anxious hearts. We see the rolling storm clouds of division & uncertainty. We know something is going to happen. We go to bed with questions each night. “What if I lose my…Health…Wealth…Family…Freedom…on & on?”

If you toss and turn over these and other “what if” questions you are not alone. Know that the anxious & uncertain times of change are not new. There is a written history of people who have been successful and those that have failed. We don’t need to be blinded by pride that no one has experienced our problem or that our situation is unique. There is a way. But it’s a choice…a choice of the heart.

One person in the Bible who experienced the full spectrum of good and bad, of plenty and total loss was David. First, he was a teenage shepherd boy, the runt of the family who God picked to be king of Israel. We learn from 1 Samuel 16:7 why, “For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” BAM! We get the first clue on how to live life. When we see everything through the eyes of God it will change everything.

When David, the young shepherd boy charged the giant Goliath he proclaimed, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” David saw Goliath through Almighty God’s eyes not his own.

When David was at a very low time of his life, he wrote Psalm 13, ”How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? 2 How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? 3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, 4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,” lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.” Now allow David’s heart whisper to you in verse 5 & 6. “5 But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. 6 I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.”

David, like all of us, was not a perfect man. How did God deal with this man (David)? We find the answer in the Christmas story, Luke 1:32 “He (Jesus) will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to Him the throne of his father David.” The heart of the matter is the heart.

I recommend starting 2026 with the wisdom of King Jehoshaphat. When he faced the impossible, he proclaimed in prayer, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” 2 Chronicles 20:12.
