Peace…what is it? Do you have it? Where can I get it?
Peace on earth is part of the Christmas tradition. Google defines “Peace” as, “freedom from disturbance; tranquility,” “a state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended.” But if you examine history, there has not been much peace. It is obvious man cannot provide peace on earth. Yet so many people look to themselves or other people to find peace.
Scripture tells us where “THE PEACE” is found. Pual writes in Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Notice there is no mention of disturbance or war. Paul’s life as a follower of Christ reflects enormous disruption (see 2 Corinthians 11:22-30). But he found Peace…
Jesus told us how we can have “THE PEACE” in No-Matter-What conditions or circumstances in John 14:27. He said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” This is the Peace Paul had because he had Jesus!
In 1994 I experienced that peace…”the peace that surpasses all understanding”. I had been diagnosed with renal carcinoma. As I was being rolled down the hall into surgery to remove my right kidney when He whispered to my heart, “You are going home!” I remember peace seemed to flood over me. It was the peace that “transcends all understanding.” I was going home…I just didn’t know which address. It would be my temporary North Little Rock address or my permanent home with Him. It was “THE PEACE” that only trusting in Jesus provides.
This Christmas intentionally find time to be alone with Him… The “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Only Jesus can provide The Peace in the middle of the storm. He’s calling…”Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Let Him give you the Gift of His Peace.
Merry Christmas
Amen! My amazing peace moment was when we received the diagnosis of Jerry’s condition and that is was terminal. I went home that night in shock and was praying the big “why?” when God flooded my heart with His amazing peace. I simply knew that is was Jerry’s time to go home. From that point on God orchestrated a series of events that showed His divine Hand in everything that happened. I miss Jerry but I still have this amazing peace and God has proven faithful to me ever since.
