“What’s Going To Happen?”

It’s incredible. We have a new and even worse crisis every week. Just when the current crisis begins to lose its fever pitch…BAM! Up pops even bigger crisis.

No matter which 24-hour news network you watch remember this, they all have 1 thing in common, “making money” …and nothing sells like fear. Yep! Nothing glues people to the media like a crisis. A well-known political figure once said, “Never let a crisis go to waste.”

From Google I found, “A 2021 study on U.S. college students found the highest-ever reported rates of depression and anxiety in the 15-year history of the survey.” People are stressed, mad and have no idea why. In the last few years, we have witnessed a global pandemic, well-known leaders, once trusted government agencies, established businesses and even some of our churches fail. Once thought to be strong anchors have failed, leaving people hopeless.

I understand the hopelessness of people with a worldly view but what about people…Christan people…people we sit next to in church who are paralyzed by the “What if’s?”

One common denominator I find in anxious Christians… they spend more time with the media than with God in prayer and in their Bible. They are allowing circumstances of the day and the opinions of people to overpower the Truth of God’s Word. Anxiety is the realization that all man-made anchors are temporary. There is only one Permanent source of Truth, Hope & Security when we face impossible life-storms, God’s Word.

So, let’s go to one of many impossible situations in the Bible. It’s found in Daniel 3 where we find 3 teenage Jewish boys who are given a choice. The boys are ordered to bow to a 9-story statue or be thrown into a fiery furnace. “What would you do?” They exhibited the God-Given “But, even if…” Power.

Now ponder this God-Promise from Isaiah 43:2-3 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

Then we see God’s Word lived out in Daniel 3:25; 27 “But I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.” “… and saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men. The hair of their heads was not singed, their cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them.” God was with the 3 boys in their fire…and He will be with you in yours!

King David, a sinner, and a man after God’s own heart said it this way in Psalm 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God”.

The Prophet Isaiah said it this way in Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Then Jesus taught His Disciples a “Life-Lesson” in the middle of a terrible storm. It’s found in Mark 4:38-40, “But He (Jesus) was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” God is in control.

And one of my favorites is from 2 Chronicles 20:12, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

If you are in a “Life-Storm” go to the Only Power that brings calm to your storm, Jesus. “Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

Yes, it was a powerful lesson in BSF this week. We all need to leave our “what if” questions behind and exchange them with “even if “ statements of faith!
