She Carried Sweet Memories…

Tupperware…the carrier of good things. These are 3 of my mother’s Tupperware containers. She used these to carry her pies, cakes, candy and other delicious foods to potlucks, church events and to the field at harvest time. When a person saw one of these sitting on a counter, table, or the tail gate of a pickup, they knew they were in for something special. Although these containers are at least 70 years old, her signature (Farrar Johnson, Apple Pie) remains written on a piece of masking tape today.

Because mother would never claim credit, she would tell you she wrote her name on the Tupperware pie container so it would not get mixed up with other containers. But Mother, like the artist she was, signed her work! When people saw a Farrar container, they knew it would be great! And I always remember her container going home empty.

When you think about it, we are like these old Tupperware containers. We carry around what’s inside of us. We show up at work, family events, church and even in the store. Like the Tupperware lids that lock in the smell when we speak or even our non-verbal presence releases what is inside of us. Our aroma, the attitude of our heart, will determine if people want what we have inside. Question, are people drawn to what you contain?

Paul instructs us to, “Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” Ephesians 5:2. Jesus even commanded it in Matthew 22:39,  “‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”. Jesus described what we should be delivering in Mark 16:25, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”

If we live life to the “Full” (John 10:10) then we will be like Mother’s Tupperware containers she took home… only memories & crumbs. A legacy of love.
