Lessons From The Farm: Preparing For The Day’s Work.

I remember those early mornings, just after sun-up, my head still groggy from not enough sleep… with a grease gun in hand. This was the ritual every morning. If something moved or turned it had to be greased. It was not a glamorous or exciting task that created interesting conversations. In fact, it was messy, but essential. Failure to grease a joint would lead to a costly & untimely breakdown.

Greasing-up was followed by fueling, making sure you had the tools necessary to make minor adjustments (hammer, crescent wrench, etc.) and drinking water. If it was planting season, we took all the seed and fertilizer needed for the day. It was essential to prepare for the field before we left the shop. Returning to the shop because I forgot something would usually cause all work to stop in the field. That was unacceptable.

So, are you ready to go to the field today?

  • Did you grease your heart with His Word, (“Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!” Deuteronomy 5:29)
  • Did you refuel your spirit? (“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” Acts 1:8)
  • Did you load the seed & fertilizer? (“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  • Have you got water for the day? (“…but whoever drinks the water I (Jesus) give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:14)

Law of the Farm: If you don’t like the harvest you are getting, stop planting the seed of bad returns! God has given us His instruction manual. It’s The Guidebook for Living. His Holy Word, the Bible.

Isn’t it time you developed the habit of intentionally being with Him before you start your day? Breakdowns are costly and painful. Plant the Good Seed of Hope!
