I don’t remember the first time I set up my “Username & Password,” but it seems that most of my adult life has been a series of Usernames & Passwords. At first, I thought it was silly. I didn’t know any dark secrets or vast amounts of assets that needed protecting nor was I conducting secret negotiations. But in today’s cyber world it is significant. A person’s Username & Password opens the cyber door to our life. Once inside, evil people can manipulate our identity and wreck our lives.
At first my usual response was whatever popped in my mind at the moment. Thinking, “Oh, I’ll remember this,” and I never did. It was a hassle. If I wrote it down I either didn’t have it with me or I could not find it. The result was I could do nothing.
Today, to access my medical & financial records, emails, and even my Bible study I am required to have & use a Username & Password. It’s just part of life. But when you think about it…this Username & Password way of identifying has been around since time.
It was on a day in Caesarea Philippi when Jesus asked His disciples, “But who do you say I am?” (Matthew 16:15). In other words, what is the Username & Password you give me? “Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Peter got it right.
Maybe it’s been a long time since you logged in with Him and can’t remember the password. Maybe you think your account has been deleted. Maybe you think you are not important. Maybe you think… But here’s the Good News, “Every Soul Matters To God.” How do I know this? It’s in the Book of Promises Made – Promises Kept, the Bible. In John 3:16, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”
It’s easy to drift away from Him…to forget our Username & Password. He knew this. That is why Jesus told this story of how important you are to Him. It’s found in Matthew 18:12-14, “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.
Are you tired of “wandering” …exhausted & overwhelmed… have you forgotten your Username & Password? Here it is! “Jesus” “I need You to come into my life as my Savior.” Jesus is online 24-7. Jesus is a Gentleman. He will not come crashing in or go where He is not wanted. He requires an invitation. He even told us “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” Revelation 3:20.
Isn’t time to open the door and invite the “Giver of Life” into your heart?
Powerful and effective sermon!
