Once the rice was about knee high…when it’s hard to see the snakes, my job was to be a flag-boy for the pilot flying fertilizer, herbicides, or insecticides. It was always just after the sun came up that I would wade into the rice field with the mosquitoes. A flag-boy is the focal point or target for the pilot to line up each aerial application. After the pilot squared up for the pass I was supposed to pace off 12 steps and be in position for the next pass. “Supposed to” are the key words here. I remember one morning I was distracted when I looked up in time to see the plane quietly coming low & close. He was close enough I could see him laughing in the cockpit. As I dove into the water the pilot tipped his wings as he flew over as if to say, “Pay attention boy.”

When I think about it, God is in the air-flying-fertilizer-herbicides-insecticides business every day. If you are a follower of Christ, you are a “flag-boy or girl.” He has sent us out into the field of life as spotters & messengers for Him. In our BSF study of Revelation one of the clear “Truths” I discovered was Pay Attention! In the Book of Revelation alone there are 46 references to “hearing”. “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” Revelation 1:3

Jesus tells us the significance of taking time to intentionally listen for Him. “Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” John 8:47 But the Good News is, you can begin to hear His voice right now, wherever you are. We have this Promise. “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”  Romans 10:9 For we know from Ephesians 1:13, “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him (Resurrected Christ) with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.”

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Revelation 3:20

He is knocking.
