Confused?

Information, if there is one thing we do not lack in this world, it is information. I found in Google, “that people consume as much as 74 gigabytes per day, which is the equivalent of watching 16 movies.” “Pew Research Center finds that people receive their news from over 3,600 news sources.” You name it and someone has an opinion. More information = more confusion. What is the truth?

One area of rising confusion is in the Christian church. I surprisingly found in a Google search, “There are estimated to be nearly 45,000 Christian denominations worldwide.” Each denomination brings with it their opinions. Add to this the many YouTube & social media sources, there is no wonder we have confusion. But know this, “God doesn’t stir us up into confusion; he brings us into harmony. This goes for all the churches—no exceptions.” 1 Corinthians 14:33 MSG. Man, not God is the source of confusion & division.

This week we completed our Bible Study Fellowship study of Revelation. For the last 8 months, 100+ men, from different denominations, races, ages, political feelings, economic status, and educational backgrounds have studied and discussed the incredible book of Revelation. With conditions ripe for division & argument, I had the joy of observing the unity only God provides. These men had two things in common. Jesus was the focus, and we used only God’s Word for our study. There are many mysteries in Revelation, but one man said it this way. “I was intimidated by studying Revelation, but I now recognize how much God loves me. It’s all about Jesus.” Another man described his year with, “I started the year as a study for knowledge…but now I study for my relationship with Him.”

I have friends who send me links of sermons & talks, books & blog sites that they want me to watch or read. That’s great, but I recognize all of it is opinion. The only true & full authority about God is in God’s Word. Here are some things God has to say about Himself & His Word.

2 Timothy 3:16 – “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”– Everything should be tested for accuracy against God’s Word for the Truth. God gave us how we should respond to information in Romans 4:3 & repeated in Galatians 4:30, “What does Scripture say?” Jesus said it this way, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?” Mark 12:24

Revelation 22:18-19 “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.” God is the author of the Bible. Only He has the authority to change what it says. It is becoming more common to hear, “Times have changed, that does not apply today.” “What God really meant was…” “There are other ways to God.” “There are errors & contradictions in the Bible.” And many more. These phrases of doubt can be traced back to a conversation between Eve and Satan, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1. God clearly warns against altering His Holy Word.

Hebrews 6: 17-20 “Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear3633 to the heirs of what was promised, He confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” Scripture has and will remain the same through time.” God has not changed!

John 14:6 – “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” There is no other way to be with God.
