Walking On Egg Shells

You’ve been there, it’s a comment, an opinion, and the next thing the veins are bulging in the neck, the scowl on the face and raised voices. Nothing sets people off today like a good-ole political opinion. And everybody’s got one.

I have been a political animal most of my life. In fact, my youth ambition was to be in politics. The most heated arguments I had with my dad were about politics. I even dabbled in the profession after I got out of the Air Force. It’s interesting how God’s Word changes a person’s perspective. Paul goes right to the heart of it all in Philippians 3:20But our citizenship is in heaven.” BAM! Think about the power of this statement, “our citizenship is in heaven”! Using a military phrase, we are just “TDY” (Temporary Duty Assignment) here on this earth. When I back off and think about my heated arguments, they have been about something that neither of us had any authority or influence over. And second and most importantly, God has been, is now and always will be in control. These arguments not only are senseless but result in division, broken relationships, and damage to our witness for being a Follower of Christ.

Listen to the rest of the passage, Phil3:20-21 “And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body.” No politician has “transformational” power. Only Jesus has that authority & power.

To be clear, I love my country, I vote and from time to time send a message to my representatives, but I must never forget I am a representative of Christ. Therefore, I am not free to pop my mouth off. Jesus clearly gave all His Followers this instruction from Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Jesus asked Peter a “Question Baring On A Need” (Dale Carnegie). It’s the same question He asks us, ““Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” John 21:17

It’s time to change your news channel. Turn off the non-stop world news and turn on the Good News of God’s Word. Here’s a News Flash from Jesus, “Look, I am coming soon!” Revelation 22:12. Be ready…live like it! Our TDY assignment will end soon!

Paul gives us an example of how to “Live Like It” in Philippians 3:13-15, “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
