I had finally talked my mother & dad into ordering my Winky Dink Kit. After weeks of waiting, it came one afternoon. I tore into the box with great excitement. Finally, I could fully enjoy & participate in the Saturday morning Winky Dink Show.

The Winky Dink Show aired from 1953 to 1957. The kit contained “a piece of transparent vinyl plastic that stuck to the television screen by means of static electricity. A kit containing the screen and various Winky Dink crayons could be purchased for 50 cents. At a climactic scene in every Winky Dink animated short film, Winky would arrive on a scene that contained a connect-the-dots picture that could be navigated only with the help of viewers. Winky Dink then would prompt the children at home to complete the picture, and the finished result would help him continue the story.” The show, “would seem meaningless to viewers without the screen, further encouraging its purchase.” (Google) If you missed a Saturday morning, you missed part of the picture. NOTE: The reason this was so cool…there were no color televisions…TV was all black & white.

As I thought about Winky Dink it came to me…we live in a Winky Dink world. If a person colors their tree blue & the skies pink that must be reality. People seem to have claimed “Creator” Power & Authority. But this is not new. Do you remember the Tower of Babel program… “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves.” Genesis 11:4. It did not go so well for them. It’s the age-old Principle found in Isaiah 5:20, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” Only Creator God has the right & authority to determine the true color of the trees…of His Creation and what is “Good” and “Evil.” We read in Romans 1:24-25 the Winky Dink lie being played out in front of us today. “Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.” It is the “Self-Centered” choice of placing what we want in front of God. That choice is sin.

Scripture tells us in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death,” in other words you will pay for our own sin when you die and face God. That is the hard truth. God established this Law in Genesis 3 with Adam, Eve & Satan. But God gives us, you & me, a way to pay for our sins. In the Old Testament we found the temporary fix with animal sacrifices. Then God gave us a better plan…a permanent solution to our sinful nature. God allowed the substitution of our life for the life of His One & Only Son, Jesus.

Ponder this from John 3:16-21, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”

One day God will remove our Winky Dink film, and we will see God’s black & white world. It will reveal God’s Righteous Way in White and Satan’s evil way in black. The Book of Revelation clearly reveals the reward for the followers of Jesus and the living horror of hell for those who chose not to follow the Lord.

The Good News, the thief on the cross (Luke 23:42) shows us, if you are sucking air, you can make the choice…the Choice where you will spend eternity.

Jesus is the One & Only way. “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9.
