Growing up we only had paper maps. One Christmas mom, dad & I, went to see my brother, Gene, who was stationed in San Antonio. Being the young lad, I sat in the back and watched & listened. According to dad, the streets in San Antonio were laid out wrong. They lacked common sense. Lost & frustrated, I remember the huge paper map “flying” around the car from person to person to person, except me. We pulled over several times to find out where we were and how to get to our destination. It was tense.
Now we have GPS. Our phones have Map Apps that will show us several routes, places to fuel up, eat, stay & even special sites along the way. Occasionally the GPS has a sense of humor or gets confused.
One summer we were going through Mobile headed to the beach. The GPS took us through town and down some back streets until we got to a street where people had moved their couches & chairs into the street. It was one large “living room.” I stopped the truck and said, “Mary, I don’t think this is the right road!” I hurriedly turned around and took a different direction as I heard the GPS “recalibrating, recalibrating.”
Maybe you are there. You have followed the world’s way, come to a place, and said to yourself, “This is not right.” First, stop and turn around, then activate the real & original GFL. There is a much older guiding system. It has been tested under extreme conditions by millions of users. It’s available on paper & digital. It comes in many languages and can be heard on audio. And it is correct 100% of the time. It’s the Bible, “The Guidebook For Living” (GFL). With today’s technology our phone apps put God’s Word in your hand anywhere & anytime.
To guide us God gives specific instructions and incredible life examples to illustrate His Love and His desire for a relationship with Him. God also knows us. He knows we will make bad choices…take wrong turns and even go in directions that lead us into the danger of being lost. So, He sent us “The Way…The Truth…The Life” so that we could arrive at our permanent home with Him, God the Father. We learn in John 14:6 that “No one comes to the Father except through me.” (Jesus). Ponder this fact. This truth was established in Genesis 3 and will be fulfilled in Revelation. From cover-to-cover the Bible is about Jesus, God’s “One and Only Son” (John 1:14). When a person chooses to turn from the worlds-way to follow Jesus we learn from Colossians 1:22 “Yet now He has reconciled you to Himself through the death of Christ in His physical body. As a result, He has brought you into His own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before Him without a single fault.” There is no other way to stand perfect, holy & blameless before the Father except having accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior” (Romans 10:9).
If you are headed down a dead-end road, lost, out of gas or have no idea whether you are washing or hanging out…don’t you think it’s time to call out to the only one who can help? Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Kids today don’t even know what we are talking about when ewe mention a road map. Time have sure changed.
