“Who’s It From…”

The sender’s address sets the stage for our expectation. If you get an envelope from the IRS, your mind will probably begin to create many scenarios of what could happen. Fear might set in as you hold your breath opening the envelope. You quickly scan the form letter. You know it’s not an invitation to a Birthday Party…it’s seldom ever good.

How do you think about God’s Word? Is it like an audit letter from IRS? Do you feel condemned for unreported sin? Do you avoid opening it because you just don’t want to think about it? If you answered “yes” keep reading.

God’s Word is complete. It contains the instructions to comply, warnings and consequences of failure to comply, a notice that all will be found guilty, and the “Good News” offer of how to remove our non-compliance verdict & penalty, enabling us to live “Happily-Ever-After.” God’s Word, unlike any other instructional “Guidebook” has many promises of encouragement and true intriguing stories that illustrate God’s unrelenting love for His people.

But you have to read & take them into your heart. For instance, 9 months before I was diagnosed with cancer, I developed an appetite to read Proverbs every day. I remember the moment when my doctor said, “that’s cancer”, the word “wisdom” came rushing into my mind…Proverbs. Then…

In my Bible I had underlined & written Oct, ‘99 beside Jeremiah 29:11, “For I have a plan for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This verse was all I had to hang on to. Then at the darkest & most impossible way, God did what only He can do. The words rushed over me, “For I have a plan for you…”! He provided strength, wisdom, guidance and encouragement during the tumultuous years at work through the Psalms. Psalm 34:4, “I sought the Lord and He answered me; He delivered me from all of my fears…” 34:8, “Taste & see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him…” And the Psalm that has the most dates beside it is Psalm 91:11-16, “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot…” Since I became a Born-Again follower of Christ, He has used His Living Word to whisper to my heart. Trust me, if He can do it for me…He can do it for you.

Right now, wherever you are, consider this promise from John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Jesus came down from Heaven, suffered, died and was resurrected so that we could live with Him for eternity in His New Heaven & Earth (Rev 21). Jesus tells us in Revelation 21::4, tells us when we come home to Him, “I will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

Good News, Jesus is coming soon for His followers. Don’t miss it!
