Is it any wonder why you are tired, anxious and have no time? Matt Bristow writes in his Blog, “Evidence suggests the average person is consuming around 74GB of data per day (roughly equivalent to 16 movies), which is equivalent to the amount of data an extremely educated individual would process in a lifetime 500 years ago, and it’s increasing year on year by around 5%.” He goes on to write, “the list of effects from information overload measured by scientists includes: Reduced decision-making abilities – Reduced willpower – Inability to focus – Reduced critical thinking capacity -Dissociation.”
Information overload sets the stage for confusion. It makes us vulnerable. Non-Believers have a problem. They find themselves just like Pilate when he asks Jesus, “What is truth?” John 18:38. Jesus gave us the answer in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Truth is found in God’s Word…everything else is opinion.
Confusion goes all the back to creation. It is a strategy Satan uses in this world to rob, steal & destroy. “Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1 Creating doubt is a strategy of evil. So, what should we do? Jesus teaches us to rely on God’s Word, not other opinions. Jesus responded to Satan’s temptation with quotes from Deuteronomy (see Luke 4).
Jesus gave us the example over and over of where to go for “The Truth,” God’s Word. Let’s go to the final hours before they crucified Jesus in Matthew 26. Jesus and His Disciples had shared the Last Super, they had prayers at the Mount of Olives where Judas brought the armed guards to arrest Jesus. Then suddenly Peter responded to the threat by pulling his sword, cutting the ear off the high priest servant. (Sounds like something I would do.) What happened next was a “Teachable Moment!” It is not just the Miracle of Jesus restoration by reattaching the servant’s ear, but what Jesus said in verse 54, “But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” It is God’s Word we must turn to in times of confusion, fear, and Joy & Blessing. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16
Today we have before us a Blessing & a Curse. In no other time in history has God’s Word been so available. If you have a smart phone, you have access to Bible Gateway, Bible Hub, Blue Line Bible, and many more on-line Bibles. The cure is if you do not develop the daily habit of studying God’s Word you will find yourself like Pilate, not recognizing the Truth when it is right in front of you. It’s a daily choice.
