This part of the series “The Farm: The Essential Role of the Sun, Air, Water & Soil takes us to the purpose, the mysterious star of the show, The Seed. Looking back 60+ years, when I was growing up on my dad’s rice/soybean farm I got a glimpse of the joy my dad had being a farmer. He simply enjoyed watching and being a part of God’s creation…the mystery of life. I did research for the details of this mysterious process that reveals the opportunity I missed by not looking for God’s hand in the farm.

I shared with my farmer friend, Bob, some of the incredible details I overlooked. “The seed coat breaks open and the root (radical) sprouts and grows downwards. Then the shoot (plumule) starts growing upwards, which later produces stems and leaves.” Google. But how does the seed know up and down? I also discovered, “Seeds remain dormant until they sense favorable conditions for growth and survival, such as water, oxygen, and the right temperature. They can also respond to environmental stimuli like light and soil components.” Google. Then I found out my dad would plant over 200 billion seeds per year, it blew me away. I kept coming back to the question, how does the seed know what to do? This scientific statement jumped out at me, “Seeds remain dormant until they sense favorable conditions for growth and survival…” BUT the seed does not have a brain…so how can it sense or know to send the root down first? I never saw my dad walking the floor at night wondering how the seed would work. No, he planted all day and slept well at night, all to do it again the next day! He knew that if the seed remained in the sack, there would be no harvest.

There are so many Principles from “Seed Time & Harvest”, but what God is speaking to me today…what our world needs now is, “Plant in Hope, Trusting in What We Cannot See, That Has Been Proven Since Time, That Our Obedience Will be Blessed Because He is a Promise Keeping God!” This sounds familiar with how Hebrews 11:1 defines Faith. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith, like farming requires doing!

There is still time to get your crop in the ground! “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 Then, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” Matthew 28:19

Are you walking the floor at night worrying about what is on the news, work, family, your life? Take the words of Jesus, the Master Farmer, “Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26. The same God who has been telling the seed when to sprout, the birds to fly south in the winter, who keeps the planets in perfect position and your very body functioning, is the same Sovereign Almighty God. He is in control, and He wants to hear from you. Jesus tells us “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
