It can happen in a crowd, at work, at a party or sitting alone on your couch. Being forgotten hurts.
Good news, God tells us He has not, nor will He ever forget us. “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.” Isaiah 49:15-16.
Did you catch the part, “engraved on the palms of my hands”? That was written 750 years before “God’s only Son” would be nailed to the Cross by His hands for our sins. Our names are written on the palms of His hands.
Know this, it is Satan who whispers, “You are alone & forgotten.” Hundreds of times throughout the Bible, God personally says, “I Am with you.” God told Joshua, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9.
God gave us a beautiful example of His transforming power. God, through Samuel anointed David to be King when he was a young shepherd boy. Many years followed before God would place David on the throne. Those years were hard, lonely years. Many of those years King Saul chased him trying to kill him. David knew alone & without. Now read the words God gave David to dwell on. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:1-4) Notice David’s confidence is now on God, His Good Shepherd, not himself. He proclaims that the Lord will provide for his every need.
Now notice God’s powerful transformation…when David shifted his focus from his problem to God, God gave him a glimpse of his Blessing. It begins in verse 5, “You (God) prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Jesus told us in John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” In John 10:3,4 Jesus tells us about His love & relationship with His followers, His sheep, “He (Jesus) calls His own sheep by name and leads them out. When He has brought out all his own, He goes on ahead of them, and His sheep follow Him because they know His voice.”
Be still…Jesus is calling. You are not alone; you are in God School…right where He wants you. Just call out His Name, the Good Shepherd is right where you are!
I needed this this morning I was looking at the pictures of my Granddaughter Kierra that we lost in that house fire last year. I sure do miss her. I am so Thankful to know I will see her when I get to HEAVEN. THANK YOU VERY MUCH BROTHER ROBERT.
