A Farmer’s Hands…

One of the unique traits of a farmer is their hands. They were usually scared, sometimes missing a finger or two, callused and strong. This was my dad’s hands + they were large. So large that one day after I popped off and told my dad he was too old to catch me, he only took two steps as he reached out and palmed my head like an NBA player palms a basketball.

Those same hands would plant & harvest many crops, build a home with his dad, repair & make farm equipment, give my mother a gentle pat that said I love you and carry me when I fell into a fire. Every time I hear the country song, Daddy’s Hands, I choke up on the verses, “Daddy’s hands were soft and kind when I was cryin’ Daddy’s hands were hard as steel when I’d done wrong.”

The Bible has over 1,400 references to “hands”. When I think about it, Jesus changed history with His hands. Thousands of years ago this prophetic statement was written, “…yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands…” Isaiah 49:15-16. Hundreds of years later after Jesus was crucified & resurrected, He appeared to the Disciples… “Then He (Christ) said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” John 20:27.

There is Full Power in the loving hands of Jesus. Isn’t it time to stop “the busy” and let His hands touch your heart?
