Remember that sinking feeling when your teacher said, “We are going to have a Pop Test today”? Usually the response was, “that’s not fair” or “we didn’t know” but, in reality, we knew we were not prepared. And that is the purpose of the “Pop Test” …for us to stop kidding ourselves. The fact is, we don’t know the material in our textbook.
In God School, Jesus walks into our daily life and puts down a “Pop Test” …Ouch! We respond with, “I’ve been really busy, I plan on doing better when things slow down”, “I’m a good person”, “Jesus, I went to church last month”, “I know the Bible is important, but I don’t understand it, so I let my pastor tell me what it says”…and many other excuses. The bottom line, we have not read our textbook, so we are prepared for the next storm of life. Jesus told us, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
I remember a professor pulled me aside one day and said, “Ya know Robert, if you will put in a little bit of study each day, you will be surprised how much better you will do.” I blew-off his advice and flunked-out that year. Jesus wants us to be victorious in life. “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10. His Plan is found in the Bible.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” 2 Timothy 3:16. Go to the source. Ask the Holy Spirit to be your personal teacher and see what happens. “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26
Don’t you think it’s time to spend a few minutes each day to prepare for your next test?
