I remember how excited my dad was one year. “It’s the best crop I have ever had”, he said at the supper table that night. “We will be able to pay off everything and get ahead.” Two or three weeks later I noticed him drinking Mylanta like it was water…his ulcers were in full flame. Dad knew about the approaching hurricane headed our way and there was nothing he could do. It was impossible.
The storm brought heavy rain & strong wind that blew the super heavy rice to the ground, where it lay in the water. I remember dad searching all known options to salvage what he could of the crop. I remember him saying he got about 2/3 of the crop…not enough to break even.
What do you do when things are gloomy and impossible…hopeless? We all have a choice. Trusting in ourselves, the world’s ever-changing & inadequate ways, or Creator God.
The Prophet, Habakkuk said it this way, “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls…” Habakkuk 3:17 We will all be faced with this choice.
Listen to Habakkuk’s choice. “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights.” Habakkuk 3:18,19
The ”Joy” of knowing
- Jesus promised, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:28.
- How David said, in Psalm 17:8, “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.” And,
- Jesus’ Promise, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
Jesus is right where you are. He knows your situation…your heart. Call out to your Savior. He has Promised, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Thank you so much! I needed this right now as I am sitting in the lobby at the cardiologist! I’ve been having some issues recently that could be cardiac related? Managed to get in due to a cancelation…..I’m sure that’s a “God Deal.” God is right here with me, right on time…always God bless!
