This became a default question when I broke my leg 3 ½ years ago. I never thought too much about handrails & grab bars before. I was self-sufficient & strong. Now, at 77, I look for 2 things, where are the handrails & are they secure? Having a handrail give way under my weight can be a disaster.
This is much like life. When I was young & bulletproof, I didn’t pay too much attention to the handrails of life. But as I have grown older…experienced many falls, I have learned a few significant lessons in God School.
- Sooner or later, I need a handrail!
- I can’t depend on my strength & ability!
- I can’t depend on other people’s strength & ability!
- Only God, through the permanent & unchanging anchor of His Word, can I put all my weight & trust!
From Hebrews 6:19, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
From 2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
I have an old Bible, I call it my “War Bible,” that has been through many falls & scrapes of life. As I fan through that old Bible there are dates beside so many scriptures. Those dates represent stories with specific scriptures He gave me for those “Impossible” times. It is as if He was saying to me, “I am right here. You can put your full weight on me because, “And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” Exodus 3:14
