In today’s hi-tech, fast-paced, microwave world we have become conditioned to having everything NOW! But God did not start man this way. God started Adam working in the Garden. Growing up on a farm I learned life is a process…it takes almost a year of hard work to get a crop in. Right after harvest (November – March) dad would bring the tractors, discs, planters & combines into the shop to repair & get them ready for the next crop. Also, dad would chisel plow the fields so they would soak up the winter rains. March – May was preparing the fields & planting. May – August was irrigation, cultivating, fertilizing, pest & weed control. Then what everyone had worked all year for (September – November) was harvest.
Listen to Paul as he describes the Principle of the Farm. “I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work. For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building.” 1 Corinthians 3:6-9.
My dad taught me that farming, like life, is a process of intentional choices, that time is precious, and never take your eyes off the “why” or purpose. It is always about the harvest.
What does your harvest look like?
