Division seems to dominant every area of life. We find it in our families, at work, sports, and even in churches. Why? On the surface we see a culture shift. But underneath it’s the age-old competition between the “world” & God. Division works. It is an effective battle strategy to conquer & control. We should not be surprised…it was foretold thousands of years ago.

“But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires, “These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.” Jude 1:17-19.

God’s Plan is very different from the world’s way. Jesus tells us in John 17:22-23 “I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

Unity is a choice. Unity comes from a single & relentless focus on Jesus. When we take our eyes off Him, we are headed for trouble. In Matthew 14, Peter was walking on water in the middle of a terrible storm when he took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink into the sea. “But when he (Peter) saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Matthew 14:30

The choice is crystal clear. “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other…” Matthew 6:24
